Malcomb Gladwell on David and Goliath

Malcolm Gladwell presents  a strong  argument for his thesis.  He gives the impression that he is intelligent and certain of his opinions. Malcolm Gladwell looks deeply into his subject in a way that the average person normally would not.  He brings new or previously undisclosed  facts to his audiences. His presentation captures ones attention during his entire talk.  He inspired me to think about David and Goliath in a deeper way.

David & Goiath

One could accepts as truth everything Malcolm Gladwell speaks in his lectures.  He uses scientific and medical reasoning to support his "facts" about David and Goliath.  He uses historical facts to support David's expertise as a shepherd.  However, he misuses Biblical facts to support his theory.  He misstates Goliath's height. Malcolm Gladwell infers David is an older shepherd rather than a young boy.  I Samuel 17:40 states," David chose five smooth stones from the stream."  The Bible makes no mention of the composition or density of the stones.

While it is my belief that Malcolm Gladwell takes liberty with certain Biblical facts, I would agree with him that appearances an be misleading.  In life each of us will feel like David at various times as we face our own giants.  It is encouraging to know that no matter how big the giant or how small one may appear, a person always has a shot.
